OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire Prerelease Info topic!

After the rather disappointing "trailer" and magazine info after the initial reveal of Pokemon OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire, I'm sure you're all chomping at the bit for new tidbits. Well, the July Corocoro has leaked and there's plenty of new stuff to whet your appetite in advance for November:

Most excitingly, Mega Swampert and Mega Sceptile are confirmed! Mega Swampert retains its type but gets the ability Swift Swim and can learn Hammer Arm, while Sceptile picks up a Dragon subtyping and the ability Lightningrod. And yes, that's Mega Diancie in that image as well. Steven Stone can also be seen in the corner of this image. Unsurprisingly, he's researching Mega Evolution, which makes sense for a stone fanatic like him. Also, you can see the glorious return of the Mach and Acro Bikes underneath Mega Blaziken in this image.

Here's another image of Groudon and Kyogre in their apparent new forms. Apparently their new forms are titled "Prehistoric" or "Primeval." It's implied they have new moves in these games as well.

Brendan and May have new looks. Apparently they spent the time waiting for remakes on the set of Jersey Shore... at least you can definitively tell Brendan is wearing a hat now. They're both wearing a new item called Mega Bangles that can be used for Mega Evolution. No word on whether customization options are retained from XY but I sure hope so. It was a good feature!

Finally, Teams Aqua and Magma are back with new designs as well. The female Magma admin is a new favorite of mine... hopefully their plans get a revamp in this game as well, eh?

So, thoughts or opinions on this new info? I'm just glad our other two starters have Mega Evolutions this time around! I'll be making use of Mega Swampert for sure in my playthrough.

My hope for the new Kyogre and Groudon formes is that they get translated as "Primal," if only for the reference to Primal Dialga from Mystery Dungeon:

...Granted, PMD is a spin-off series and doesn't have any bearing on canon, but I want to believe ;w; Their appearances are kinda similar too...

I like the team Magma and Aqua redesigns Particularly Team Aqua, who look even more piratey now, which is really cool. And yeah, I'm hoping they give a little more thought to their plans this time... whose brilliant idea was it to "expand the ocean so that there can be more habitat for water Pokemon" anyway? C'mon, Archie, use your brain.

Whatever they go for with the new Groudon/Kyogre forms, I do like that they don't seem to be shifting exclusively to Mega Evolutions for new form changes. I'm hoping we do get more Mega Evos than just the starters, personally - I never used any in XY because my teams consisted of all Kalos mons, so having a nice array of options would be excellent!

With the emphasis on these ancient forms of the legendaries (come to think of it, I hope there's one for Rayquaza too), I think that Magma and Aqua might have slightly more grandiose plans this time around. Perhaps they intend to wipe the world's slate clean and terraform (or aquaform dohoho) the planet to start anew with a world more oriented for the Pokemon they're inclined toward.

Looks like you got your wish, Twitch, it's officially Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre.

Groudon's new form is Ground/Fire, Kyogre remains pure Water.

EDIT: Also, it looks like (if you watch close during that trailer) Archie and Maxie are also packing Mega Evolution items of their own - Maxie's got them on his glasses and Archie has one on his necklace. Mega Camerupt and Mega Sharpedo, perhaps? Or they actually gain control of their legendaries this time around...

Mega Sableye Confirmed Guys! and he got himself a giant rupee there!

So I changed the topic title. I think it'll be best to keep new info to one topic instead of a ton of threads.

I like Mega Sableye. It's not just a bigger, stronger version, and I like that the designers are creative like that... although the red gem makes me wonder if it won't be altered slightly between versions. Maybe a red gem in OR and a blue one in AS?

...THAT'S the design they went with for Mega Sableye? Not the direction I would've chosen, myself... but it's creative, I'll grant them that. I suppose I'll have to make a sprite for it, since Sableye is in Uranium, after all...

While the idea of alternate appearances between games seems a cool idea, I'm starting to think Mega Sableye just has the giant ruby because it's got one on its chest normally. I looked at the video again and the ruby shield pretty clearly sprouts out of its chest.

Shiny Mega Sableye, however, probably would have a differently-colored gem... I'm hoping we see more Megas soon.

My hopes for new Megas: Mega Altaria ( maybe??), Mega Flygon, Mega Plusle/Minun could be interesting and Plusle was one of my old favorite Pokemon so I'd love to see it get an evo of some kind

I can't say I've ever understood the secret base hype... maybe it's because I didn't have anyone else around to play Pokemon with at that time. Maybe online will make it somewhat more interesting for me this time.

Back with Mega Sableye news! First off, have some official art! And how about a back view while we're at it?

Mega Sableye is confirmed to retain its Ghost/Dark typing, but now possesses the Magic Bounce ability. It's a little slower than before but both its defensive stats have gone up! You can see all the current info about it here on the official website.

I must say that this was kind of a let down to me :/. I don't see how a tankier, slower mega sableye is better than the regular prankster one with a free item slot to use.

Well then obviously you don't have a very open mind JV. I can think of plenty of ways to make use of this!
For example.
Now with a boosted Sp. Attack you can make use of nasty Plot and turn it into a Tanky sweeper. Giving it Shadow Ball and Dark pulse for STAB. Fill that last slot with it's egg move moonlight and your good to go!
So both Mega and Regular Sableye are valid choices. You either got a Fast Priority Status inflicter or a Hard hitting physical Tank.

I've seen people suggesting that Mega Sableye be more of a strategic Mega than one that's just used and done with. I'm not really into competitive, so I'll just quote what I saw somewhere else (albeit edited a little for legibility):

Magic Bounce is a brilliant ability. With other Megas, it was always best to Mega Evolve instantly, but I can see a prankster Sableye lead Taunting, then Mega Evolve while using either Will-o-Wisp or Swagger. Since the turn order is decided before the evolving, it would still have priority.

Other people have also suggested that it's good for messing with your opponent, since they'll be unsure just when or IF you'll Mega Evolve Sableye, so I think people will still find some use for it.

Standard Sableye has 50 base HP and 50 base Speed. HP is never increased by mega evolutions, and even though speed is being reduced, the boost of 100-120 stat points to it's defenses and sp.atk (which isn't mentioned at all) isn't enough to make it tanky or anything close to that + the lack of leftovers/assault vest support. So it already fails as a tank, definetly fails as a sweeper and isn't a priority status inducer anymore.

Sincerely it won't even compare to any decent eviolite user (similar in the fact that they can't use leftovers etc) like porygon2. Seriously, I don't know what gamefreak had in mind with this. As Mercury said, Sableye has access to priority Taunt, rendering magic bounce completely redundant since the enemy won't be able to induce status/setup rocks anyways...

Well That's me trying to think competitively. I don't do it very well. But the real meat of it all is that we should appreciate that there is one instead just twiddling our thumbs saying which is better.

I kinda dont like the sableye it's not different it just has a ruby im. Hoping for a mega breloom, maybe a mega sailors or walrein, hopefully a camerupt

Well guys, it's been a while but we're back with info - and something I think you all have been aching to hear.

Secret Bases aren't returning... but in their place are the new "Super-Secret Bases"!

The mechanic seems to be a mix of the customization available in the original Ruby and Sapphire, plus aspects like the capture-the-flag minigame that the Sinnoh games added. We'll be assisted by a fellow named Aarune (JP name) and his Flygon. You can read more about it here on the Bulbanews article or check out the Japanese site until the English version updates as well.
