You're free to cancel at any time, too.

Patrons get some perks; in addition to being the first people to see and and even test new gameplay content when the time comes, higher tiers are allowed to directly influence what goes into the game to a small degree, in the form of adding new NPCs, trainers, and even entire sidequests.
