Re: Video Games
I made a thread to discuss Pokemon fangames over in the Fangames forum, so we can migrate this discussion over there and keep this thread related to non-pokemon games.
...On-topic, I'm still obsessed with League of Legends, and since they released the new Ultra Rapid Fire game mode (as an april fools' joke) i haven't been able to stop playing it. No cooldowns or mana costs means you can pretty much spam all of your abilities with no repercussions. Some characters are really broken because of it, but it's also totally awesome.
Also, PAX East is coming up, and since I live close to Boston I briefly entertained attending there, because i've always wanted to go to a video game convention... tickets sold out within an hour, though, so that's not going to happen. :I sigh. Maybe next year...

Re: Video Games
OMG, Greninja is in the new Super Smash Bros.! I find it really funny because of all the reactions to the new trailer, people were like "MEWTWO! IT'S MEWTWO!!!" and then like nope, Greninja. Lol. I won't be surprised if Mewtwo comes back though, with his new mega forms.
It looks really good though! Too bad I don't own a WiiU... but I'll definitely get it for 3DS!
The only other 3DS games I have are Pokemon Y and Animal Crossing New Leaf (which I haven't played in like 7 months... my town must be in shambles by now). I'd like to get Ace Attorney 5 and Fire Emblem Awakening when I have the chance.

Oh, man...xArc_Knightx wrote:Can someone please explain to me what Hatoful Boyfriend is?
Hatoful Boyfriend is a visual novel / dating sim where all of the characters you can date are birds. It was originally conceived as an april fools' joke but was later made into an actual game. I unabashedly love it and unironically consider it one of the best games I have ever played. It tricks you into thinking that it's all off-the-wall humor and bird jokes, but then you get attached to the characters and a deeper backstory unfolds until it all culminates in an epic bonus story that is equal parts suspenseful, tragic, terrifying and heartwarming.
It costs about $4 and is worth every penny. There's a sequel too, which is just as much of an emotional rollercoaster, and which has a character in it that serves as the inspiration for this guy:

Where does the idea for it's evo come from?

Re: Video Games
The same character, it starts out looking like an innocuous bird-like thing but has a "true form" (spoilers!) that looks a lot like Dramsama's many tails. Pretty much all of Dramsama's powers are based on it, including disguising itself, trapping people in a coma and stealing their souls to make them part of itself. In fact, it's basically a direct rip-off, haha... (don't sue me, Hato Moa)xArc_Knightx wrote:Where does the idea for it's evo come from?
Re: Video Games
Dramsama looks cute but I guess if you mess with it you'll be found dead in an alley haha I've actually never heard of that though

Re: Video Games
Gonna resurrect this thread to talk about some other games I've been really into lately...
Bastion and Transistor are indie games for the PC (and other platforms) made by SuperGiant games. Bastion was released in 2011 and Transistor came out just a couple months ago in May. Although they aren't sequels, they share thematic elements -- dynamic narration, highly customizable battle systems involving active and passive abilities, a feature that allows you to make your enemies stronger in exchange for higher drop rewards, and more similarities that I won't get into. They also both feature gorgeous hand-painted 2D graphics and breathtaking soundtracks. I'm not lying when I say that Transistor is probably the most visually stunning game I've ever played.
The gameplay styles are slightly different: Bastion is more or less a real-time action game where you have a large arsenal of weapons at your disposal, including hammers, swords, bows, muskets, rocket launchers, etc. The fighting still takes some strategic planning and quick reflexes to block and dodge attacks. I found it to have significant depth.
That pales in comparison to Transistor's battle system though, which is a seamless hybrid of real-time and turn-based action. You have an energy meter, and at any point when it's full you have the ability to stop time and plan out your next move. There are any number of strategies you can take, and this is further augmented by the nearly infinite amount of combinations you can have with your techniques. In exchange for this, the game is very challenging and throws hordes of enemies at you that each have their own tricks and ways to frustrate you, requiring advanced strategic decisions to come out on top.
Did I mention the live narration? Both games have great stories that are told by a narrator who is also another character in the game. The voice acting is superb, and you really end up getting attached to these characters and empathizing with their struggle. It's one of the most emotionally affecting games I've played, and as someone who appreciates good storytelling in their games, these deliver very well on that front.
I fear I've rambled on a bit too long, so I'll just end this post by saying that these games are phenomenal, and you should play them if you haven't yet.

Re: Video Games
New people in the forums so going to attempt to resurrect this thread again lol.
I personally am a huge supporter of indie games. I love indie games to death, and many indie games give you just as good if not better gameplay experiences than many AAA titles that are released these days. I highly value the work indie devs put into their games, knowing that their game may never make it anywhere, and many indie devs barely having the money to work through their projects.
Some of the indie games I have played over the last two years or so that have completely blown my mind as to how good they were:
Transistor: As stated by Twitch this game was amazing. This game is definitely one of my top indie games of all time, hell one of my top games of all time. The combat system is one-of-a-kind and they pull it off flawlessly. The storyline is amazing, and unlocking additional info about the story feels great.
Shadowrun Returns: This game is based on the tabletop rpg Shadowrun. It is a turn based, over the top strategy game, in the style of games such as Wasteland, Fallout, Jagged Alliance, and XCOM. The RPG system is well thought out and the story, while short for an RPG, is really good. This game also allows mods which add more RPG elements, more maps, and whole new story lines.
Wings of Vi: This game... This is perhaps one of the most frustrating games I have ever played, but that is the point. It is a platformer where the only way to progress is to die over and over and over until you learn everything that will happen going forward. Boss fights are intense, and you will likely die many times learning the boss's mechanics. I was in the neighborhood of 14000 deaths by the time I finished my first playthrough of this game. But it was well worth it.
Outside of Indie games I enjoy basically every genre except racing games. My most played games are probably WoW, League, Smash, Minecraft, and Civ games
