Unfortunately if you saved then this means you are stuck. theres a bug where its impossible to progress if you leave or loose the 7th gym at any time. Sorry for your misfortune.

Yes, But there wasnt anything after the Gym other than mega stones appearing. So you free to do anything else within game. but unfortunately you cannot continue.
