Story Reset but Keep Pokemon Team?

I was wondering if the Devs have any plans to add a mechanic - if there isn't one like it already - to be able to restart the game's story while keeping your team. With all the bug fixes and added content starting to appear.

For example:

• You're at the 7th gym.
  Later a new version of the game comes out where the 8th gym is added as well as many changes to the story that you have already passed (such as the updated Nuclear Power Plant 1 event you encountered) or other additions.
  
  Apart from this mechanic, it would seem that you would have to reset your game AND team to relive and experience the completed plot. (Or you could just create another account and trade your team to your new account).
  

Actually, thinking about it more, pokemon encounters (like encountering legendaries and event pokemon) and give aways (such as when the Prof. and Ripley give you Pokemon) will have to be disabled.

You can always just start a second save file if you want to play through the story again.
