Tossing the PST?

What will happen if I toss the PST? I tried tossing it, but then restored from my save file just in case I might get stuck somewhere.

Key items being tossed is a problem that should be fixed later, although I don't know if you'd risk breaking your game if you did. I would heavily advise against throwing anything in that pocket away, though.

Yeah, it's not supposed to be; don't toss it, it may cause your game to become unwinnable.

I actually took an adventurous step and tossed the PST before pulling the lever in the Nuclear shelter room. Nothing much happened. The usage of PST on that pokemon which comes rushing out should say "Kill intruder kill" or something similar. But since I tossed the PST away, just nothing happened, no translation, straight to battle and just no crash!

There's a sidequest much later on the game that requires you to have the PST, so you'd be locked out of completing that.
