Mutant Battle

The usual battles in official Pokemon games are limited to those against wild or Trainer-owned Pokemon. I think that Pokemon Uranium can cross that limit.

What I want to suggest is something that could tie in with Uranium's lore. Instead of limiting the infectees of the nuclear radiation to pokemon, why not introduce human infectees, too? They could appear instead of wild pokemon in certain places and they'd be considered as nuclear-type but possibly with moves from other types, too. Unlike pokemon, they can't be captured, of course, but would still grant XP when defeated. Their appearances could vary, too, like in zombie shooter games. For example, mutant hikers, campers, fishermen, etc.
If it's too much of a bother to have them mixed in with wild pokemon, maybe they can be in a side quest/s instead where you have to exterminate/mercy kill them. I think this is an opportunity to enrich the storyline and contribute to the dark atmosphere that the game seems to be going for.

If this is gonna happen, then just as a sidequest, please. But them in the midst of pokemon would be quite annoying...

True, but personally I believe that's because we have a presumption of what is and what isn't in a pokemon game. Then again, even in official games, they keep introducing new features in every latest version. This suggestion sounds radical because it's something that the official games wouldn't bring out because of content issues. What should prevent Pokemon Uranium to introduce its own, especially when it's not bound by censorship and age ratings (while still staying tasteful)?

Have you ever played a ROM Hack called Pokemon Snakewood? They totally have zombie trainers you can fight. Of course, they use zombie Pokemon, too.

...Actually, though, I feel like your suggestion deserves a more specific response.

The way that radiation works in the world of Pokemon Uranium is quite different from the radiation of, say, the Fallout series. Although it still originates from the decay of radioactive isotopes (and believe me, I did my research for this game) some artistic liberty has been taken with the effects of radiation, particularly on Pokemon.

This explanation is sort of a spoiler, but it's more like backstory so I feel at liberty to spoil it here, an explanation for why radiation has the effect that it does on Pokemon. This will be explained later on in the game (by Professor Bamb'o), but it's not in this beta.

So the long and short of it is that there is a specific reason why radiation only mutates Pokemon and not people. Smile

Thanks for the explanation, especially with something beyond this beta. Smile With the internal consistency you decided for this game, I guess the mutant battle idea really can't work with it. I honestly hoped that you haven't decided on some of the plot's rules yet so I tried to plant the idea. Very Happy I'm looking forward to the rest of the story.

And no, I haven't played Snakewood yet. study
